Curious about other FTA receivers

I was out poking around on the internet this weekend, and stumbled across an interesting trade magazine online - TELE-Satellite. I'm sure some of you are familiar with it.

I browsed through all the pages and noticed there was only one familiar FTA brand mentioned. All the others were new to me and I was wondering if these units are only available outside North America, and if so, why?

Are they different in the same way PAL differs from NTSC?

Are there testing and support site likes this one in other areas of the world that cover these other brands?

Any insight into this topic is appreciated.

yes there is other brands around the world that work like the ones in the us. dream box is one of them that is used all over. there is ALOT of different brands out there.i had a humax that is used here (not much) sold it to a guy in australia. some brands can use files just like clones.there is so many stbs out there it crazy!! pansats are used all over too!! when you get looking around you might be shocked at how many different brands and sites there is!!
