com port wont open

Hi Can anyone help me I am trying to set up my vista based laptop with loader 2 to update my viewsat extreme receiver via usb to serial adapter cable but I cant get the com port to open . How can i fix this problem

well vista does not like to do that but you can try changing the file to xp instead of vista by changing it to a xp file by right clicking the file and changing the file

Not sure I follow the files i use are the fixes I download from here so how do i change them from vista to xp or is there another program i can use besides Loader 2 that will work .

I had the same exact problem with vista, this is how I fixed it, gl...........

Go into control panel then system or device manager...depending on what your system calls it. Scroll down to ports. Plug the cable in at this point the port your linked to will appear. click on it...go into advanced and change the baud setting to match the loader software.

also see what loader 2 is set at and make sure your pc port is set the same
