just to let all you know there is a virus being spread around by black fly's there is going to be a bulletin on the news soon about it. was at the vets office yesterday (sick dog)with in the time i was there i seen five dogs put down(our pamoe too) all from black fly bites. look for red rings on open skin that is a bite mark!! it hits there lungs fast vet said he has seen it before but nothing like this!! i hate to see this happen to some elses pets so be on the look out for it!!

Did vet say anything re any preventative measures ie shots, pills etc ? or what the virus is? is virus relegated to a certain part of the country? Thanx weed for the post & warning.

didn't say if people could get it did say 1 mg of benadreal per 10 pounds so if you have a 50 pound dog give it 5mg. we thought it was all right when we left the vets then they called me as we were going home 5mins @ $500.00 latter. i know if you google it you can find what answers you need on it. they did make a call and was turning it in somewhere when we were there p.s just looked it up YES people CAN get it and die from bites!! going to have to cover up when i out in the woods!! this stuff is bad news!!you know with swine flu going on i wonder if it is were its coming from!! he did say look for a RED RING and swelling. one dog i saw his face was swollen up up to the top of his head!! ours had a fever of 104.8 when we got there take a drink of water and through it right back up and panted real real hard couldn't get a breath in!!

OH OH---if i`m figuring this right I`d have to sell my house to get him some of this stuff as he`s over 100 lbs. I`ll google that stuff. Thanx again weed---my dog is more trustworthy and faithful than every human I know.

I checked that out weed---I`m guessing you mean benadryl---which is quite a common anti-allergy medicine. For humans that is---never heard of it being given to dogs but why not? There`s a lot of allergic reactions dogs get from the ground itself---esp from other infected animals urine or feces (these can indeed be deadly). If we could only train them to keep their nose out of each others ass. LOL Keep us posted weed.

WHOA cougar---don`t be giving your dogs anti allergy meds if they don`t need them---It can kill them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See a vet & ask about it.

Sure know what you mean there, Big $$for tests. My dog has an allergy to ragweed seeds in the grass believe it or not. Every August & Sept. I gotta give him Prednisone tabs or he`ll lick the crap out of his feet, they get red & raw if he doesn`t take it. Never heard of it but I guess it`s a common allergy but like you said I`ll do without something before he goes without. He`s the other kid in the house----the one that doesn`t talk back !! LMAO
