UFC President, reveals the octagon might be getting smaller

UFC President, Dana White has revealed that there may be plans on the way to reduce the overall size of the octagon, presumably to make the fighters engage more and therefore giving the fans more exciting fights.

Speaking to Yahoo!Sports.com, Dana explained:

“Actually, we’ve been talking about making the Octagon smaller. We’re considering making it smaller. [UFC matchmaker] Joe Silva wants it. I think he wants to turn the thing into a [expletive] bathtub. Have them fight in a little tollbooth.”

It would be an interesting concept to see put into practice and would change the overall dynamics for fighters like Lyoto Machida who use the distance to their advantage. Heavyweights in the cage with someone like Brock Lesnar would simply have nowhere to manuvere, making takedowns much easier to gain.

I think it is bs; fighting is not just pure strength or weight, it is also speed, cardio, dexterity, ability to avoid damage, wear out your opponent and then take advantage when he is out of gas;

I`m hoping this is a no-go----I`m with fab1 totally on this one. A good fighter knows how to cut-off the ring and make it smaller while a good fighter also knows how to make the ring larger depending on who he`s fighting. It`s all part of the game my friends----ringmanship is another part of the package that can make a great fighter.

Very well said guys. I hope it stays the same. Fighters have adapted to the size of the cage. Their technique is built around it. It would be awful if they did this. Lets keep our fingers crossed for the best.

As for my favorite, this is hard for me. My gut just tells me that Anderson Silva is pound for pound the best in the world, only cause NOBODY has hurt him yet. And, he's going up a class and still dominating. Then again, I gotta say GSP. As far as Machida, he is rising fast. He still needs more dominating wins to be P4P. He is definitely on his way tho. Personally, just cause he is an old pal of mine, Tito is my fav. I'm biased, yeah I know. He'll probably never hold the title again, but I feel bad for the next few guys on his comeback.
