NHL suspends Morency for 5 games

SASKATCHEWAN (CBC) - The NHL has suspended New York Islanders forward Pascal Morency for the remainder of the pre-season and five regular-season games for leaving the bench to fight Calgary's Dion Phaneuf.


Morency had originally been suspended indefinitely by the league after the game Thursday, when he left the bench to fight Phaneuf after the Flames defenceman laid a big hit on Islanders forward Kyle Okposo.

The hit left Okposo motionless for more than six minutes.

He was taken from the ice on a stretcher and diagnosed with a mild concussion.

Morency has already served two games of the suspension.

Calgary won the game 5-4 in a shootout.
