Week 1: Are you ready for some football?

Kickoff Weekend opens with a bang as the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers host the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night, Sept. 10. The Titans (13-3) and Steelers (12-4) had two of the top records in the NFL last season, and one of Tennessee's wins came against Pittsburgh in Week 16.

Other highlights of the Week 1 schedule include a pair of primetime games involving two of the offseason's biggest headline-makers. Jay Cutler will make his Chicago Bears debut at NFC North rival Green Bay on Sunday night, while Terrell Owens and the Buffalo Bills will travel to New England to face Tom Brady and the Patriots in a Monday night matchup

Week 2: Familiar foes
Seven divisional matchups in Week 2 should make for some early fireworks. The Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons fought for the NFC South crown a year ago, with Carolina coming out on top and Matt Ryan and Co. making a trip to the playoffs as a wild-card team. This year's race starts with a meeting of the two teams in Atlanta.

Among the other divisional clashes: Matt Cassel will lead the new-look Kansas City Chiefs in their home opener against the Oakland Raiders, while the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys will renew their rivalry by opening the new stadium in Big D on Sunday Night Football.

Meanwhile, the Indianapolis Colts, with new coach Jim Caldwell, travel to the desert to face the defending NFC champion Arizona Cardinals. Two of the game's best quarterbacks -- Peyton Manning and Kurt Warner -- will get a chance to dazzle in front of a national audience on Sunday night

Week 4: Made for primetime
With the early games serving as an appetizer, Sunday and Monday night will be the main course. The Steelers and Chargers battled for a spot in the AFC Championship Game last year with Pittsburgh prevailing at home. Philip Rivers and the Chargers get another shot for a win on the road against the Steelers on Sunday night.

The Packers and Vikings opened the 2008 season with a classic Monday night matchup, and they'll get a chance for an encore in Minnesota. Adrian Peterson rushed for 295 yards in their two meetings last year, but the Packers hope their new 3-4 scheme will slow down the Pro Bowl running back

Week 5: Student vs. teacher
Several of Bill Belichick's assistants have gone on to earn head-coaching jobs, but none have received the attention of Denver's Josh McDaniels. Following an offseason feud with Jay Cutler, which resulted in the quarterback being traded to Chicago, McDaniels is the new face of the Broncos. Now the pupil will get a chance to show what he learned from the teacher.

In another interesting coaching matchup, new Jets coach Rex Ryan will try to duplicate his recent success against the Dolphins. As defensive coordinator of the Ravens, Ryan put together a game plan that resulted in four interceptions from Miami QB Chad Pennington as Baltimore came away with a wild-card victory last season.

Week 6: Happy anniversary!
The 2009 season marks the 50th anniversary for the eight teams that played in the American Football League. Six of those squads will square off in Week 6. The Broncos will travel to San Diego on Sunday night looking for revenge, as losses in Denver's final three games in 2008 allowed the Chargers to claim the AFC West title.

The two other AFL matchups feature an AFC East showdown between the Bills and Jets, while the Titans head to Foxboro for a tilt with the Patriots that could have playoff implications.

Week 7: Study abroad
In the third installment of the NFL's International Series, the Buccaneers will host the Patriots at Wembley Stadium in London. In each of the first two years, a team that has played in the series has gone on to make the playoffs. Last season, the Saints beat the Chargers 37-32 before a crowd of 83,226. The International Series began in 2007, when the Giants edged the Dolphins 13-10 as part of their run to a title in Super Bowl XLII.

Among other highlights from Week 7: Two of the NFC's best from last season will meet when the Giants host the Cardinals, while the Eagles go on the road to face the Redskins for a pivotal NFC East clash on Monday night.

Week 8: Road to revenge
The Cardinals and Eagles both won on the road to advance to the NFC title game last season. Now the teams that they eliminated -- the Giants and Panthers -- will have a chance to return the favor. The Giants travel to Philadelphia after falling to the Eagles in the divisional round, while the Panthers go to Arizona with a chance to get a little revenge for their blowout loss to the Cardinals.

Meanwhile, two other teams looking for redemption square off. The Rams and Lions combined for just two wins last year, but when they meet in Detroit, the top two draft picks from the 2009 NFL Draft will share the field in Week 8, barring a major trade prior to the draft.

Week 9: Tale of two QBs
In the 2004 NFL Draft, the Chargers and Giants made a blockbuster trade after No. 1 pick Eli Manning said he wouldn't play in San Diego. The Chargers shipped Manning to the Giants for the No. 4 pick, Philip Rivers, and other draft picks. Five years later, both teams can say they're happy with the results of the deal, but it's Manning and the Giants who have a Super Bowl ring.

Rivers and Manning will get a chance to state their case for which team got the better end of the deal when the Chargers travel to New York.

Thursday Night Football debuts with Bears-49ers, the first of eight games on NFL Network in 2009. San Francisco coach Mike Singletary had a Hall of Fame career playing in Chicago, but he now leads the 49ers. For the Bears, this is one of five primetime appearances for Brian Urlacher and Co.

Rivals close out Week 10 in primetime. Jim Caldwell will get his introduction to the Colts-Patriots rivalry as a head coach when the two teams meet in Indianapolis on Sunday night. The Ravens, who swept the Browns last year en route to the playoffs, will look to continue their good fortunes with a trip to Cleveland.

Week 11: Offseason acquisitions on display
The Seahawks and Vikings both vied for T.J. Houshmandzadeh's services in free agency before Seattle landed the talented wide receiver. As Minnesota looks to repeat as NFC North champs, it will get a chance to see first-hand if Houshmandzadeh was worth the $40 million investment from Seattle as the Seahawks try to get back to the playoffs with new coach Jim Mora and a healthy Matt Hasselbeck.

Albert Haynesworth, arguably the biggest offseason addition, landed a $100 million contract with Washington for games like this. He'll get an opportunity to help the Redskins in a crucial NFC East clash against the rival Cowboys in Dallas.

Week 12: Time to give thanks
The NFL and Thanksgiving go together like turkey and stuffing. The first of three matchups features NFC North rivals Green Bay and Detroit. This will represent the 19th time the Packers and Lions will play on Thanksgiving.

The Raiders and Cowboys follow in what could be an offensive showcase with Oakland's young talent in JaMarcus Russell and Darren McFadden, while Dallas counters with Tony Romo, Marion Barber and Roy Williams.

The evening closes with the Giants and Broncos on NFL Network. While the matchup will be key for both teams, it's especially important for the Giants, who follow with three straight divisional contests.

Week 13: Northern exposure
The Bills head to Toronto for their second regular-season game in Canada. Their divisional tilt with the Jets will be broadcast on NFL Network on Thursday, Dec. 3. The Bills look to make Toronto more of a home-field advantage than it was in 2008, when the Dolphins won 16-3 in Week 14.

Among the seven other divisional matchups in Week 13, the Titans head to Indianapolis, the Patriots are at Miami and the Giants host the Cowboys. In all three cases, the divisional foes split their meetings in 2008.

Week 14: Fourth quarter
As teams move into the final quarter of their schedule, playoff spots and positions will be up for grabs. The Steelers have their eye on a second straight Lombardi Trophy, but the Browns want a playoff berth after coming close in 2006 and taking a step back in 2007. New Browns coach Eric Mangini gets a chance to beat a bitter rival Thursday night on NFL Network.

New Orleans also has an opportunity to take down a divisional foe while trying to get back to the playoffs. The Saints travel to Atlanta, where the Falcons went 7-1 last year en route to posting an 11-5 mark. The NFC South was one of two divisions (NFC East) to not have a team with a losing record in 2008.

Week 15: Talent show
Ray Lewis and Brian Urlacher have been the middle linebackers of their generation. Lewis and the Ravens made it to the AFC title game a year ago, while the Bears missed the playoffs for a second straight year. The Bears-Ravens matchup in Baltimore could determine the playoff fortunes of both teams.

The Sunday night game will feature two of the NFL's top three rushers from 2008. Minnesota's Adrian Peterson led the league with 1,760 yards and Carolina's DeAngelo Williams was third with 1,515 yards. The Vikings will go on the road to face the Panthers in a matchup of division winners from last year.

Week 16: Playoff preview
There are a plethora of matchups that could have playoff implications in Week 16. The Giants and Panthers met in Week 16 of 2008 to determine the NFC's top seed. Will there be a similar situation this time around?

Another potentially critical matchup in the NFC pits the Vikings against the Bears in Chicago. The Bears entered the final week of the 2008 season with a chance to win the NFC North, but lost to the Texans as the Vikings edged the Giants.

Four of the AFC's six playoff teams from a year ago will meet as the Steelers host the Ravens and the Chargers travel to Tennessee for a Christmas night matchup on NFL Network.

Week 17: Fantastic finishes
The final week of the regular season always proves to be a can't-miss show. A year ago, the Eagles and Cowboys played what amounted to be a play-in game for the final wild-card spot in the NFC, with Philadelphia coming out victorious. The two teams will close out the 2009 season in Dallas.

Among other potentially big NFC games: The Vikings will host the Giants for a second straight year in Week 17, and the NFC South could be up for grabs when the Saints travel to Carolina and the Buccaneers host the Falcons.

Meanwhile, in the AFC, the Steelers close the season at Miami and the Colts play at Buffalo. The Redskins' visit to San Diego could also have major playoff significance for both conferences.

Default Re: NFL 2009/2010 Schedule

NFL Cincinnati @ Pittsburgh

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A win over the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this season put the Cincinnati Bengals on the national radar as legitimate playoff contenders. Another victory over the defending Super Bowl champs will put them in the driver's seat to win the AFC North for the first time in four years.

The Bengals look to sweep the regular-season series over the Steelers for the first time in more than a decade when they visit Heinz Field on Sunday.

Cincinnati has won six of seven, including a 23-20 upset of Pittsburgh on Sept. 27 on a touchdown pass from Carson Palmer to Andre Caldwell with 14 seconds remaining. The Steelers haven't lost since their visit to Cincinnati, and are tied with the Bengals for the division lead with 6-2 records.

While a Bengals win this weekend would give them a sweep of the season series for the first time since 1998, and put them in control of the North, Palmer tried to keep this matchup in perspective.

"It's a game," he said. "We're not going to look too far ahead of who's on the schedule, who's left, worry about playoff implications, worry about home-field advantage. We don't need to be thinking about any of those things. ... They're in a must-win situation. We feel we're in a must-win situation."

Pittsburgh has regrouped by winning five in a row since that loss - aided by the return of Pro Bowl safety Troy Polamalu, who missed the earlier matchup with the Bengals due to a knee injury. The Steelers are 4-0 this season with Polamalu, including a 28-10 win at Denver on Monday night in which he intercepted his third pass.

"To me he's one of the best players in the game, and when you add that guy you're only going to get better," Palmer said.

Palmer and the Bengals are looking to improve to 5-0 against division rivals after beating Baltimore 17-7 last Sunday. Palmer threw for 224 yards and one touchdown while Cedric Benson recorded his fourth 100-yard rushing game of the season, finishing with 117 yards and a score on 21 carries.

The defense, meanwhile, gave up a season-low 215 yards total offense.

"Today was a statement game," said receiver Chad Ochocinco, who caught five passes for 66 yards in his fourth straight game with at least five receptions. "I want every game to be a statement game."

Benson is making a loud statement that he's become one of the game's top running backs. After rushing for 747 yards and two touchdowns last season, Benson is one of only two backs - along with Tennessee's Chris Johnson - to average more than 100 yards per game in 2009. Benson has scored in each of the last four games, averaging 117.5 yards in that span.

"We used to be an air-it-out, explosive offense, and when you play in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Baltimore and Cincinnati, you get to those December games and you can't throw the ball 40 times," Palmer said. "You have to be able to run the ball. We are at a good point now."

Pittsburgh is coming off a short week following the victory in Denver, where the Steelers scored the game's final 21 points after trailing 10-7 in the third quarter. Ben Roethlisberger threw three TD passes, two of them to Hines Ward.

Strong defense made Roethlisberger's heroics possible. The Steelers picked off Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton three times - two of the interceptions by safety Tyrone Carter.

"We have guys that are designed to be great," coach Mike Tomlin said of his defensive unit, which has forced nine turnovers in three games since Polamalu's return. "They play hard every time they come out, regardless of their opponent or story line if you will. Those guys are committed to being great every time they step in the stadium."

The Steelers defense will be seeking redemption for its last performance against the Bengals. They failed to record a takeaway in that contest, and allowed 100 rushing yards for one of only two times this season.

Pittsburgh had won the previous five games in the series against Cincinnati, including a 27-10 home victory last season.
