Lindsay Rushton finishes seventh at world wrestling championships

HERNING, Denmark - Lindsay Rushton of Guelph, Ont., finished seventh in the women's 48-kilogram division at the world wrestling championships Wednesday.

She opened the day with a 3-1, 0-1, 4-1 win over Yan Tang of China and a 0-2, 6-4, 3-2 victory over Japan's Makiko Sakamoto. Rushton then lost 8-1, 5-2 to Britain's Yana Stadnik.

In other women's action, Jessica MacDonald of St. Catharines, Ont., lost to Roksana Zasina of Poland 3-0, 3-0 to finish 24th in the 51-kilogram class.

On the men's side, Evan MacDonald of St. Catharines lost 3-5, 5-0, 7-6 to Apostolos Taskoudis of Greece to finish 16th at 74 kilograms.

Double Olympic medallist Tonya Verbeek of Beamsville, Ont., is slated to compete Thursday in the 55-kilogram division.
