ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - A four-week trial has been set for a former Newfoundland and Labrador politician charged in the province's constituency allowance spending scandal.

Former New Democrat member Randy Collins was charged in 2007 after the province's auditor general alleged he overspent his constituency allowance by nearly $359,000.

His trial, on charges of fraud, uttering a forged document, breach of trust and influence peddling has been scheduled to begin Oct. 19 in the province's Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, the court case against former Liberal cabinet minister Wally Andersen has been set over until May 1.

Andersen is accused of overspending his constituency allowance account by more than $344,000.

Neither Collins nor Andersen were in court today.
