Specter changing to run as a Democrat 19 minutes ago WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Pennsylvania Republican Senator Arlen Specter said on Tuesday he will switch parties and run for re-election as a Democrat in 2010, which would increase the number of Senate seats Democrats control to 59. Pennsylvania has increasingly voted for Democrats and Specter was facing a tough bid to be the Republican candidate for the Senate seat in the state. If Democrats can control 60 Senate seats, they would be able to bypass Republican procedural hurdles to moving legislation. (Reporting by Jeremy Pelofsky, editing by Patricia Zengerle)
