Regina brothers collect million-dollar cheque for lottery win

REGINA - They say lightning never strikes twice, but apparently lottery wins are a little more common.

Saskatchewan is seeing its fourth million-dollar win of the year, this time in Regina.

It appears persistence was the key once again for Regina brothers Tim and George King. They received their million-dollar cheque Tuesday, the prize for playing a winning Western Millions scratch ticket. Tim buys numerous scratch tickets every week from a convenience store, including the winner purchased last Friday.

"For the past year and a half I do it twice a week," he explains. "I buy everything he has on the counter, one of each, Friday afternoons and Sunday mornings. I try to break even, most of the time I don't."

The King brothers split all their winnings.

They'll use the cash to bolster retirement funds that have been hit hard over the last year and a half.

Tim is six years from retirement. George is four years away and says his fund has "taken a beating in the market crisis."

"There isn't a great deal of time to recoup; I'm not 25. What this does is in one fell swoop is recoup it. It takes the worrying out of the financial end of my retirement planning."

That will include travelling "anywhere warm" during the winter months.
