Oprah cancels 'Columbine' anniversary special

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Oprah Winfrey on Monday cancelled an edition of her chat show due to mark the 10th anniversary of the Columbine massacre, saying it gave too much attention to the killers.


Winfrey's television show had been due to feature interviews with survivors and victim's families as well as the school's principal in an episode titled "10 Years Later: The Truth about Columbine."

However Winfrey said in a statement on her website, Oprah.com - Live Your Best Life - Oprah.com, that she had decided not to air the taped show after a review.

"I decided to pull the Columbine show today. After reviewing it, I thought it focused too much on the killers," Winfrey said. "Today, hold a thought for the Columbine community. This is a hard day for them."

Winfrey's decision came as Colorado prepared for a ceremony to remember the school shooting of April 20, 1999, when two teenagers shot dead 13 people before killing themselves.
