Lawyer for breast cancer patients dismayed by board's handling of new cases

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The lawyer representing patients whose breast cancer tests were botched in Newfoundland and Labrador says the health board at the centre of the case is still failing to keep people properly informed.
Ches Crosbie says he was stunned when Eastern Health announced late Friday that test results from 38 breast cancer patients need to be reviewed to determine whether they were accurate. Crosbie says he would have expected to have been told of the development rather than learn of it through the news.
Crosbie says the board initially wouldn't comment on the new cases, but then held a news conference Sunday.
Eastern Health says 24 of those 38 patients are dead, though it wasn't immediately clear how they died.
The development comes nearly a month after the conclusion of a judicial inquiry that found a litany of problems led to at least 386 breast cancer patients receiving the wrong results on tests.
