General Motors' CEO open to bankruptcy 'if it's required'

DATELINE - New General Motors Corp. CEO Fritz Henderson is softening GM's opposition to bankruptcy reorganization a little more.

Henderson tells CNN bankruptcy is something GM will do if it has to.

But he says the automaker still prefers to do its restructuring without bankruptcy protection.

Recently ousted GM chief Rick Wagoner resisted bankruptcy, saying he feared it would drive customers away and force GM into liquidation.

Henderson says the task force and U.S. President Barack Obama both indicated bankruptcy protection "may very well be the best solution for the company."
