Sling at Macworld, DISH Cuts Retailers, LodgeNet and DIRECTV

Sling Media, the EchoStar unit known for its SlingBox technology, is creating waves at Macworld this week. The company is showing off the SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone, an application that is being built using Apple's SDK that's being targeted for the iTunes store. Also, Sling Media is demonstrating HD streaming on the Mac via its web-based SlingPlayer in Sling.com --- DISH Network terminated another group of retailers the company said allegedly engaged in illegal activity, including fraud and misrepresentation. The retailers, as listed by DISH in a statement, are: Aloha Communications of Provo, Utah; Prance Communications of Alhambra, Calif.; Sam's Satellite and Service of Redding, Calif.; Satview LLC of Reno, Nev.; Carlos Simpson (dba Digitall) of Beaumont, Calif.; Imran Shaikh (dba Affordable Satellite II) of Houston; Air Satellite Dish of Orlando, Fla.; Sunshine Dish of Orlando; and Rahan Kahn Affordable Satellite of Humble, Texas --- LodgeNet said it was selected by DIRECTV to provide technical support and installation services to upgrade high-def systems in more than 500 hotels served by the DBS company nationwide.
