Satellite : Multiplatform Layoffs Begin

Viacom, AT&T, Charter and NBC-Universal all announced layoffs on Thursday, totaling more than 13,000 multiplatform jobs, due to the economic downturn. The steepest cuts were at AT&T, where four percent of the workforce (or some 12,000 employees) across all departments were cut, followed by 850 at Viacom and nearly 500 from NBCU's sales, news, films and parks divisions. Viacom also announced plans to freeze senior management salaries in 2009. Charter will cut less than 75 jobs as it realigns its operating structure into East and West.

The World Teleport Association ranked RRsat Global Communications Network, a provider of content management and global distribution services to the television and radio broadcasting industries, among the Top Teleport Operators of 2008. RRsat was ranked among the top 20 teleport operators in three award categories - "the Global Top Twenty," "the Independent Top Twenty" and "the Fast Twenty."
