Hybrid Platforms Boost European Satellite Outlook

As the European video market turns more and more to hybrid solutions, new opportunities are emerging for sat operators, notes a recent report from NSR. The analyst group points to developments such as the Orange TV bouquet in France which offers bundled broadband, telephony and video over aDSL plus a satellite bouquet supplement to serve outlying areas. Another example comes from Portugal’s MEO bouquet where “DTH is the primary service and aDSL are secondary.”

Across the European market, DTH players are facing challenges from DTT platforms. In response, NSR notes, satellite platforms are boosting SD and HD channel options and launching special low-cost bouquets.

In sum, the NSR report sees a diversifying market which new opportunities for satellite operators across the continent – a phenomenon which, the analysts note, is likely to spread to other parts of the world
