ESPNU Update on Dish

Looks like a lawsuit between Dish Network and ESPN over it’s ESPN U channel could have been settled. I learned late this afternoon that tomorrow Dish Network will be moving the popular college sports network from the Gold 250 package down to the Classic Bronze 100 package.
I was able to confirm with Dish Network that this move will be taking place tomorrow afternoon.
Dish Network sued ESPN claiming that ESPN violated its “Most-Favored Nations” contract clause. Dish claimed that ESPN made deals with DirecTV and Comcast that were “more favorable.”
Dish Network was asking for at least $1 million from ESPN in the federal lawsuit filed August 4th in a US District Court in New York.
While no word of a settlement of this lawsuit has been announced, I can only imagine that this move of ESPN-U to Dish Networks basic package was done as part of the settlement of this lawsuit.
And while ESPNU is moving to the Classic Bronze 100 package there is no word if or when Dish Network customers might see ESPNU HD.
I know many Dish Network college football fans are hoping that they get the HD version shortly, as the college football season is now in full swing.
DirecTV has announced that they plan on adding ESPN-U HD by the end of the first quarter of 2010.
