People are being warned not to buy satellite television service from satellite signal pirates following raids by the RCMP across Quebec.

The Radiocommunication Act prohibits using satellite TV signals except through domestic dealers like ************* or Star Choice.

Four people have been arrested after a nine-month RCMP investigation into the illegal use of radiocommunication services.

Descramblers and computers that might have been used to develop access codes to steal satellite signals have been seized as evidence in the investigation, dubbed Operation Connecteur.

According to police, those arrested advertised the decoders on the Internet and sold the equipment to clients in Montreal, Granby, Shawinigan, Sorel and Ste. Thérèse for $300.

None of the four has been charged with any criminal offence, but police say they are considering fraud and theft charges.

It is not likely that clients who bought the equipment will be implicated.

Law enforcement agencies tend to focus on the manufacturers, sellers and distributors of the illegal devices used for stealing telecommunication signals.
