DIRECTV made the disclosure today while releasing its fourth quarter financial report.
While the satcaster showed a strong sub gain for the year, the 125,000 subscriber increase in the fourth quarter was less than its 2010 fourth quarter result when it added 289,000 subs. DIRECTV said its subscriber churn -- the industry term used for subscribers who drop the service -- was slightly higher in the 2011 fourth quarter (1.52 percent) compared to 2010 (1.44 percent.) For the year, the satcaster's churn was 1.56 percent, compared to 1.53 for 2010.

DIRECTV ended the quarter with with 19.89 million subs in the U.S.
The nation's largest satellite TV service said its U.S. revenues increased nine percent in the fourth quarter to $6.03 billion. DIRECTV credited the larger subscriber base as well as higher NFL Sunday Ticket revenues, price increases on programming packages, leased set-top boxes and higher premium channel fees.
