UFC 99 - Full Card Breakdown

Rich Franklin (-155) vs. Wanderlei Silva (+115)
Both fighters will be looking for redemption in this battle as Silva is off a brutal loss to Rampage Jackson while Franklin is looking to bounce back from a couple of beatdowns courtesy of Anderson Silva.
Wanderlei Silva is 32-years-old and he’s an old 32. He’s also become somewhat predictable in recent fights. If Franklin does his homework, he’ll know everything that Silva can throw at him.
Franklin should be in control but one wild card is Silva’s power. He can end the fight with one punch but as long as Franklin avoids the big hit, he should be the one making the comeback.

Cain Velasquez (-200) vs. Cheick Kongo (+160)
Cheick Kongo is an absolute beast. He’s not a guy you want to owe money to.
But while he has excellent power on his feet, he is very raw when it comes to the mat. That’s bad news against Velasquez, who is a rising star in the heavyweight division.
Velasquez is a smart fighter and he’s not going to allow this fight to be decided standing – he knows where Kongo’s weaknesses are.
Look for Velasquez to have an easier time of things than people expect in this fight.

Spencer Fisher (-225) vs. Caol Uno (+175)
This match has fight of the night potential as UFC betting experts know that the Spencer Fisher always puts on a show.
Uno is quite the veteran but you have to wonder how his six-year hiatus from the ring will affect his comeback. He’ll fight Fisher, who seemingly has an endless motor. Fisher has never really looked tired in any of his fights.
What will make this fight great is that both fighters are relentless and fearless. This won’t be a dance and both should be spent by the time it’s done

Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy (+175) vs. Marcus "The Irish Hand Grenade" Davis (-225)
The guts and glory of Marcus Davis should earn him the cheers of the European crowd in Germany this Saturday as he faces of with Dan Hardy.
Davis has had some good performances in Europe, including his last two wins over Paul Kelly and Chris Lytle.
But Davis isn’t a young sprite. At 35-years-old, he might have trouble with an up-and-comer like Hardy. Technically, though, Davis is the better fighter and if he can do some damage early on, he’ll be in control the entire way.

Mike “Quick” Swick (-225) vs. Ben Saunders (+175)
Mike “Quick” Swick has looked really strong since dropping to Welterweight and he’ll take on ATT fighter Ben Saunders.
This could be a quick fight, no pun intended, as both fighters have combined for eight first-round endings.
Both guys throw pretty hard and both fighters are adept on the ground as well. The difference should be that Swick has fought better competition in the past and should be more ready to control a close fight like this.

Dennis Siver (-200) vs. Dale Hartt (+150)
Dale Hartt will bring the Muay Thai to the table in this fight while Dennis Siver will add the kickboxing and Taekwondo. Translation: this could be a good stand up fight.

This fight should be very evenly matched and is quite the close call.
It doesn’t have to play out standing up either as both fighters are capable of grappling and scrapping on the ground. While it’s tough to pick, the entertainment value should be high.

Paul Taylor (-500) vs. Peter Sobotta (+300)
Peter Sobotta will represent the German contingent against “Relentless” Paul Taylor at UFC 99. Sobotta does have a pretty good record (8-1 over the last five years in MMA) but he has fought a bunch of cream puffs.
But Sobotta is very versatile with a good game on the ground and he’s good with takedowns.
He’ll faceoff with Taylor, another UFC debutant, who fights exactly as his nickname indicates. Taylor won’t be nervous at UFC 99 as he constantly brings the fight no matter the occasion.
Sobotta might have some nerves not only debuting, but also fighting in front of his home crowd.

Denis Stojnic (-110) vs. Stefan Struve (-130)
Denis Stojnic may have lost to one of the guys who is headlining the card – Cain Velasquez – but he was also the first fighter to ever take Velasquez to the second round. Stojnic has plenty of power and deceptive speed, which could be a problem for Struve.
Struve has a number of advantages in this fight and it’s just a question if he’ll be able to take advantage. At 6’11, he’s one of the tallest fighters in the UFC and he’ll have a reach advantage. He’s also the superior fighter at grappling and submission.
Even so, expect for Stojnic’s power to be the difference in this one.

Paul Kelly (-550) vs. Rolando Delgado (+325)
Rolando Delgado has the heart of a lion but you have to wonder about his skills. He’s from The Ultimate Fighter 8 and he actually lost in the preliminaries but was later brought back as an injury replacement.
Delgado isn’t a great fighter by any stretch but he is always very hungry and determined. He really might not get many chances and UFC 99 will be one of them.
Kelly is simply the better fighter here. Look for him to take Delgado to the ground and enforce some ground and pound en route to a victory.

Mirko Filipovic (-450) vs. Mostapha Al Turk (+275)
Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic is back and he’s tossed a softball in this matchup. UFC betting experts know that Al Turk doesn’t have much of a stand up game and that could be a real problem against Cro Cop.
Al Turk’s strength lie on the mat but Cro Cop has spent quite some time in his career avoiding takedowns. Cro Cop should make his comeback in a big way in UFC 99 with a TKO.
This fight should be very evenly matched and is quite the close call.

Spencer Fisher is a bro of mine. So, I'm kinda biased towards him. But, even still, he should take this fight. He is an absolute beast. He fights at 155lbs, walks around at 165-170. I roll with him on the mats on occasion, and I weigh between 210-220, and he hangs in there real good with me. Tough S.O.B.!!!

Franklin probably has this one in the bag. His cardio is through the roof!!! He never wears out. I've rolled with him as well. Wand on the other hand is a straight up DOG!!! That dude is scary!! Been a HUGE fan for many years. I just think that he has beaten SO many good guys over in Japan in Pride, that he doesn't quite have the fire he used to. He's kinda like Liddell, has nothing really to prove anymore. If he catches Franklin, then nighty-night. If Franklin can weather the storm, then he has it won.

There is some excellent fights on this card. Should be fireworks between Swick and Saunders. Mike is also an old friend of mine. I hope he wins this one.
