Ed Herman is likely to replace an injured James Irvin and take on Wilson Gouveia at UFC 102 on August 29 in Portland
Irvin withdrew from the matchup with Gouveia on Tuesday after suffering a “massive” knee injury that will sideline him for up to 10 months.
Herman (15-7, 4-4 UFC), who had bee scheduled to fight Aaron Simpson at UFC Fight Night 19 next month, is 4-4 in the UFC since debuting with the promotion in 2006 following his appearance on the reality show. After back-to-back losses to Kendall Grove and Jason MacDonald to start his UFC career, Herman would win 3-straight over Chris Price, Scott Smith, and Joe Doerksen. “Short Fuse” followed up losses to Demian Maia and Alan Belcher in 2008 with a unanimous decision victory over David Loiseau in April.
Gouveia (12-6) has compiled a 6-3 record in 9 UFC bouts, including back-to-back victories over Ryan Jensen and Jason MacDondald before suffering a third-round TKO loss to middleweight contender Nate Marquardt at UFC 95 in January.
UFC 102 is headlined by Randy Couture vs. Antonio Rogrigo Nogueira and airs live on pay-per-view.
