Exclamation FTA Noob Question

Hello!

I know that the fixes are not available yet. But is it possible to buy an HD Receiver that will be compatible with the (hopefully) up coming release? I feel like there will be price gouging when the fixes are released. That being said, I would like to get something now.

Thanks

Default Re: FTA Noob Question

Nobody knows for sure yet about any release, so I am sorry. I can't answer that. But, if you get yourself a larger motorized dish with a linear lnb, you can get true FTA channels. Then, there are plenty of receivers that you could choose from. If your waiting on a release, then you should probably wait to purchase a receiver.

The main thing to concider in this case with the "possible" new bin file is the memory of the reciever, as from what I have read if there is a new file it will be conciderably larger in size, many of the newer recievers are made with more ram memory than their predessesors, as well as faster processors. One example of this larger ram, is the Sonicview brand (not pushing a certain brand, just using as example). For some recievers there may be an attachment that connects to the RS232 connector to increase this much needed memory, this is not definite, as no one really knows as to what the size of such a file will be at the moment. But it will definetly be alot larger than the older N2 files, at least from the reading I have done.
I know this is not much help, but right now no one really knows for sure what will be needed if or when such a file is released.

The best advice for right now is to try and figure out what you want for features with the type of reciever you wish to purchase, as well the amount of money you wish to spend on a reciever.
At the present time the only viable solutions are OTA(over the air)/Cable, IKS/ICS (internet key or card sharing), "True" FTA and of course Subbing it.
With the first two, you may wish to purchase a reciever with a built in digital tuner for O.T.A./cable as well as IKS/ICS capable, and can also do "True FTA", this would give you the best possible of choices and bang for your buck.
Hope this helps you out some, you should do some reading as to the various recievers available, and also what their specifications of the recievers are to help you decide.
As well you might want to look at getting a moterized dish kit, there are some really good kits and reasonably priced, available, with larger dish size also included in these kits.
