how to connect 8psk board to your viewsat 9000hd

1. Turn off power to the VS 9000, and unplug.
2. Remove cover.
3. Remove the round rubber plug on the back of the unit.
4. Plug the 2 cables that come with the adapter into the main board. Note: These are 2 distinctly different cables, and can only plug in to one place on the board, so you can't confuse them.

5. Install the board, with the washer and nut and secure it tightly.
6. Plug the 2 provided cables into the adapter.
(you can put the cover back on if you wish)

7. Plug one end of the provided coax cable into the adapter and the other end into the loop out connector that is directly below the "sat in" connector. This is the one on the left, as looking at the unit from behind, on the bottom.

8. Plug power back into the box, and turn on.
9. Go to the Menu
10. Go to User Settings
11. Go to System Settings
12. At the bottom, you will now have the option to turn the External Tuner "ON". Do this.
13. I don't think this is necessary, but it's what I did... Factory Default to get rid of all current channels.
14. Go to Antenna Settings and setup your lnb/switch combinations.
15. Do "Auto Scan" on each of your sats individually.
dont forget you must be pointing to a bird that has hd channels, in order for this unit to work
How-To Setup or Recover a Viewsat VS9000HD - NEW

How-To Setup or Recover a Viewsat VS9000HD - NEW
C/P
This is a procedure to setup a new unit or recover a hung one.
Read entire post before starting.
Review the steps you are going to do many times until you understand it well.

Many users are having problems that look like corrupt data or bad software memory and data management.
Also note this box does not handle data format changes gracefully. In reality they crash & burn.

WARNING: it is easy to get hung fast. Editing Sat/Chan data, upgrading from a previous Bootloader, Channel or Satellite data all are causes of problems. The safest way to proceed is to always do a Factory Default command before and after any load or Receiver Upgrade.

What is known (aka - Rules):

1. any Factory bin may be loaded IFF (if and only if) you do a Factory Default immediately after loading
2. DO NOT load across Bootloader version updates
3. DO NOT load across Satellite version updates
4. Avoid Satellite/Channel data edits.
5. DO a Factory Default before & after any data format changes
6. NEVER go backwards - the unit can become a brick and will have to go back to Viewsat *

Note: the Factory bin on the Viewsat web site is "VIEWSAT_VSHD_V0121", the files thread here is "VS 9000HD Factory Bin File - V0121 (Updated)", the package downloaded is "VIEWSAT_VSHD_V0121". They are all one and the same.
Note: When you switch between the Factory and Release bins or the New and old GUI, a Factory Default command is required before and after the load to avoid problems. The options for these programs differ and must be initialized.

Current Software: Package ==>> bin (Update these as new bins are released)

* Factory : VS 9000HD Factory File v127 2008_12_10
* Release : PFTAHDSW_090111H DN A/R Fix

What to do:

Option A - Quick Fix with Menu access:

1. 'Power Off' with the back panel switch
2. disconnect antenna
3. copy clean Satellite and Channel files to a USB Drive
4. 'Power On'
5. Factory Default
6. plug USB Drive into front port
7. Receiver Upgrade=>USB Satellite file
8. Receiver Upgrade=>USB Channel file
9. Factory Default
10. exit Menu
11. 'Power Standby' with remote or front panel switch, wait 5 sec.
12. 'Power Off' with the back panel switch
13. connect antenna
14. 'Power On'
15. Factory Default
16. setup Options
17. see Setup Antenna & Scan Satellites below

Option B - New or Fix Clean Install with Menu access:

1. 'Power Off' with the back panel switch
2. disconnect antenna
3. copy Factory and Release bin's to a USB Drive
4. with only a TV connected, 'Power On' with the back panel switch
5. Factory Default
6. plug USB Drive into front port
7. Receiver Upgrade=>USB Factory bin
8. wait for reboot
9. Factory Default
10. Receiver Upgrade=>USB current Release bin
11. wait for reboot
12. Factory Default
13. 'Power Standby' with remote or front panel switch, wait 5 sec.
14. 'Power Off' with the back panel switch
15. connect antenna, audio, ...
16. 'Power On'
17. setup Options
18. see Setup Antenna & Scan Satellites below

Option C - Fix Clean Install without Menu access:

1. 'Power Off' with the back panel switch
2. disconnect antenna
3. on USB Drive:
* copy current Release bin
* create a directory "USB"
* copy Factory bin to "/USB/PFTAHDSW.pgm"
4. plug USB Drive into front port
5. with only a TV connected, 'Power On' with the back panel switch
6. the display shows: "BOOT", "CHECK USB", "DOWNLOAD"
7. when the display shows: "ERASE" - pull the USB Drive out
8. wait for unit to complete Erase, Program and re-boot (Notes #3, 4)
9. Factory Default
10. plug USB Drive into front port
11. Receiver Upgrade=>USB Release bin
12. wait for reboot
13. Factory Default
14. 'Power Standby' with remote or front panel switch, wait 5 sec.
15. 'Power Off' with the back panel switch
16. reconnect antenna
17. 'Power On'
18. setup Options
19. see Setup Antenna & Scan Satellites below

Do a Serial load of the Factory bin as a last try procedure if the Boot "CHECK USB" load fails.
We have not seen a case yet where it is necessary.

Notes:

1. Menu commands or operations are indicated with text Like This.
2. VIEWSAT_HD_V0121 is the Factory software with Bootloader version 1.05; Main S/W version 1.21; Satellite version U00D.
3. When doing a reboot it comes up in the 'Off' or 'Standby' state (display only shows time). This is a feature of the new software. Use the remote to 'Power On', then 'Menu' quickly.
4. It is very important after a reboot to get into the Menu immediately. Allowing the software to read the old memory data can cause a hang or boot-loop. The Factory Default will initialize all data.
5. Do not load any saved data. This may be a source of problems. Edit changes into the new data.
6. The Factory has a major new "look and feel" GUI (Graphical User Interface). It contains Satellite Version U00D.
7. The current Release contains both old and new GUI packages. The Old version contains Satellite Version U00B. The NewGUI version is reported to have serious issues with the External Tuner and other areas. It contains Satellite Version U010. Read the discussion threads before loading the Old/New GUI or posting questions.

Note:

When you switch between the Factory and Release bins or the New and old GUI, a Factory Default command is required before and after the load to avoid problems. The options and runtime data for these programs differ and must be initialized.

HowTo: Setup Antenna & Scan Satellites

New procedure required due to recent(?) code changes.
The underlying problem is this code fails to save critical data changes in an orderly, timely, reliable manner.
To force saving data reliably (as can be done now), start with the procedure above or:

1. Factory Default Command
2. completely exit the Menu

then:

1. Antenna Setup and Auto Scan only one satellite
2. completely exit the Menu
3. Power Standby (Front Power Switch or Remote OFF)
4. wait 5 seconds
5. Power ON (Front Power Switch or Remote)

Repeat for each satellite.
This seems to be the only way to get the data stored correctly and copied into active memory for current use.

Suggestions to avoid running into problems with this code:

1. avoid making big changes all at once
2. exit the Menu & Power Standby often
3. Antenna Setup: one satellite, Exit Menu, Power Standby
4. do not make Satellite & Channel changes
5. KISS

Now that you read this completely - re-read again, especially the parts you are going to do.
This procedure is not simple because this software is buggy , unforgiving and requires careful handling to keep it working.
Good luck.

VS9000 - How To: Edit TP's to get the HD channels

1. Hit the menu button on the remote.
2. Go to "Installation". Enter PIN code 0000
3. Select "Channel Scan".
4. Use your right/left remote buttons to get to the sat that you want to edit.
For this example, we'll say you want to edit sat 129, so select EchoStar 5.

5. Turn Network search "Off".
6. Scroll down and highlight the EDIT TP icon (It's the one on the left and it should go to it first. Press "OK"

7. If you're using the default satfile, TP 12268 is out of date and thinks that SD channels are on it, and actually it's a HD TP, so use your up/down arrows until you get to 12268.

8. Press the F2 button on your remote to "Edit" the TP.
9. Right arrow once to highlight 20000 and type in 21500. The highlight will automatically move to the Polarity entry. It should not be changed.

10. Right arrow again to the FEC field.
11. Use the up/down arrow until you have 2/3 in that field.
12. Right arrow again to the MOD field.
13. Up/Down arrow until TURBO8 is showing.
14. Press your Exit key.
15. Scroll down to the next TP that you want to edit, then press the F2 button again.

16. Repeat steps 9 thru 15 until you've got them all done. Then rescan.

Note: If you want, you can press the Exit key after each TP. It will ask if you want to save, select Yes. Press the OK key and it will scan the TP you just edited.
